VI. Why did I create this book? Universal concept means that no matter what hair texture or skin tone a client has, hairdressers can use the same hair design elements and principles to construct and deliver whatever haircuts their clients want. That is, I discovered that as long as you know how to manipulate all different kinds of natural hair texture, you can create any haircut, with different shapes, forms, textures and balance. The construction of all haircuts is based on the same hair design principles and hair design elements. Over the years I came to realize that there are different elements of hair design, and that they can be used in various ways to create different components. Various combinations of these different components can create different haircutting patterns. Each pattern in turn provides numerous options for hairdressers to choose, and that is how so many different haircuts can be created and delivered. Hair design allows hairdressers to create the haircuts they envision, by helping them to understand the difference between cutting hair one way instead of another. In other words, it helps them to see the consequence of each piece of hair they cut. By learning the relativity of hair design, hairdressers will have total control of the outcome of each haircut, which improves their creativity, consistency, accuracy and efficiency in haircutting. In addition, they will have the ability to create any customized haircut to fit each individual client according to their features, personal preferences, desires and lifestyles. Therefore, mishaps, accidents and surprises will be dramatically reduced, minimized and eventually avoided. 10
