III. The Foreword First, I would like to thank you for recognizing the existence and importance of hair design. It is my hope that this book, which is a technical guide intended to help hairdressers understand the hair design process by demonstrating different haircutting systems—approaches, concepts, techniques and tools—to deliver haircuts, will help you invent new ways of cutting hair and create new haircuts that will be widely admired. I would also like to mention the extraordinary success our industry has been enjoying, and to recognize the accomplishments and achievements we have seen recently. It is astonishing to me how many salons there are these days, and how with each year they grow bigger and bigger. With the establishment of more advanced training centers we have seen an increasing number of amazing haircuts. Due to the commitment on the part of manufacturers and distributors, more and more quality hair shows, seminars, in-salon education classes, trade magazines, books and DVDs have been created. Consequently, a greater number of salons have established comprehensive in-house training programs. They have been relentlessly and tirelessly helping hairdressers to improve their trade. As a result, more and more people have fabulous haircuts, and more and more people are interested in being hairdressers! I also want to take this opportunity to salute all of the teachers of beauty schools, the instructors of advanced training academies, educators of distributors, as well as art directors and platform artists of manufacturers, without whom we would still be doing the same haircuts, in the same way. Last but not least, I want to pay tribute to those remarkable hairdressers who have passed on their knowledge and skills without reservation, as well as continuing to impart their wisdom through the legacies they left behind.
